Bob Houghton's boys are yet to come up with a performance that makes them the outright favourites in the ongoing Nehru Cup. And, Indian defence mainstay Gourmangi Singh believes that the next match against Sri Lanka just might be the one.
"We started on a bad note by losing the match against Lebanon. The second match against Kyrgyzstan was a do-or-die situation," Gourmangi says, adding, "The team is still looking to get on the right track. I hope that the next match (against Sri Lanka on Wednesday) be the one."
But the Lankans, who stunned many by toppling the Lebanese apple-cart on their very first outing, might not be that easy to read. Especially, after they meekly surrendered to Syria 0-4 in their following clash on Monday.
Though the Indian camp cannot afford to take anyone lightly, Gourmangi is sure that the coach will once again prove to be a master planner.
"We always make a strategy before a game and then stick to it. That happens on the eve of the match-day, during the final training," Gourmangi says.
"For the match against Kyrgyzstan, the defence was briefed to aid the midfield in attacking. And, that paid off as we created more chances than we did against Lebanon.
"Sri Lanka's two completely contrasting results make them more difficult opponents. But I am confident that the coach will come up with something to tackle them as well."
