NOISE POLLUTION

Environmental pollution begins with any external material that damages the earth’s surface or that disturbs the flow of life. It may lead to short term (acute) or long term (chronic) damage. Noise pollution is one major form of pollution.
There are sound all around us but we don’t notice them because we are used to them. But when certain sounds go beyond a point which disturbs our work and exceed the tolerance level we say it as noise pollution. The noise level is measured in decibels. There is a range of sound above which the human ear can tolerate. When the noise around us crosses this frequency range and our continuous exposure to that sound causes several problems.
Noise pollution leads to physical and mental problems. It may even cause damage to the ear and complete inability to hear. It causes mental irritation when exposed continuously. Other psychological effects include lower productivity, increased incidence of ulcer, headaches and fatigue.
Noise pollution and its damage to the environment has increased and it has become significant that we even a day in a year as International Noise Pollution Awareness Day on 24th of April.
It is important that we take measures to reduce the noise pollution. As an individual it is our duty to be sure that we maintain the volume of our television radio etc in such a way that it doesn’t disturb people around us. The use of loud speakers can be reduced when not necessary. Hence we should try our best to reduce the noise pollution and all other pollution and save our environment and our mother earth.
